New Shoes

New Shoes

Last week came the good news that I was 12 months cancer free  and we were very  happy.

Then we note that the cancer may be gone but in its place we have grown bellies.

So, we have the chat: We should ixNay the ellybay (we talk in pig latin so we don’t alarm the dogs). We need to get back into shape.

We go to the Nike Store and buy shoes.

Monday we run. Just 3 or 4 kilometers but we do run.

Popular wisdom says that you give your body a break by alternating the muscle groups, so you run one day, bike or something the next. You know; kind of like Ale one day, Lager the next. Or Red one day, White the next.

But no, we throw wisdom to the wind and we run on day 2. Now on day 3 we (especially me) whine and complain. My legs hurt. Today we wear walking shoes.

Tomorrow we run.

Thousands Of People

This morning, co-incidentally on the morning of my 66 birthday, son Darren, daughter Pam, Marilyn and I participated in the Harry Rosen Spring Run Off with a few thousand of our closest and not so closest friends. You were all there too,  not physically, but we were thinking about all of you who had so generously pledged on our behalf as we made our way up all those wicked hills in High Park.  I just hope your legs and butt don’t hurt right now like mine do. If they do, I apologize, I really do.

It’s been 8 or 9 years since either Mar or I have done a running event like that, back in the late 90′s and early 2000′s we regularily did runs including half and full marathons “for the T-shirts”.  Since we started training for this run back in late October while we were still in Edmonton I’ve been wondering if this was going to be a one-off event or whether it would signal the start of a new round of fitness and running.  Marilyn is all set to give it another go. I’m going to wait until the afore mentioned butt and legs feel better and then think about it from there.

It’s funny, I remembered all the good times but over the years I completely forgot about the pain.

I better not think about it too long; I see the 10 km Peach Bud is on in Grimsby on June 28.

Maybe just one more.

I’m thinking the last time

8.04 Kilometers

We did it! Our goal was to run an 8 km run before the end of February and it’s done, complete, finito!

This morning we ran through the Plaza Machado, then out to Olos Atlas, and north up the Malecon. At about 6 kilometers we turned and headed back to Olos Atlas for the final 2 kliks. We toasted our success with a delicious scone and two great coffees at Looney Bean, a popular Mazatlan coffe shop.

This is, of course all in preparation to run the Harry’s Spring Run-Off  in support of Prostrate Cancer  on April 2 in  Toronto. So we’ve got it. It wasn’t all that pretty but we’ve still got about 5 weeks to work on the “pretty” part.

How are we doing on the fund raising part you ask? Click Here, you can pledge right on this page if you want or pick your favorite team member and make your pledge on their page, your choice.

As of this morning our team has slipped into third place. This is where you can help. If you haven’t pledged yet, now is probably the perfect time.

We appreciate all your help. Thanks to you all including Peggy, Randy & Nancy and Anonymous.

Thankyou all.
